What a busy week!
Early in the week, we had a special visit from Ms. St. Martin! She spoke with us about being kind and encouraging to everyone! We took a pledge to be kind, and to spread the good word to our friends and family outside of school!
We had another special guest on Thursday! A representative from the Lakeview Food Pantry came in to thank us for all the of the food that has been donated for those less fortunate than us. We were so happy that he stayed to answer all of our questions, because we had a lot! We are so thankful for our families who have made donations to help others! But there are so many other ways to help!
We learned two new letters and letter sounds. It is still important to practice these letter sounds at home, especially now that we have learned so many! We learned about syllables in this week, and have been practicing breaking down words into "beats" while simultaneously clapping! This movement helps us to count out the syllables in a word.
The boys and girls in room 001 are now published authors! Children selected their favorite book and ensured it met the publishing criteria. Once the covers were made, each child shared their book with the group! We love to listen to our author friends, but we also learn so much from them! Share time is an incredibly valuable part of Writing Workshop.
This week in math, we used graphs in many different ways. We were introduced to graphs in previous lessons, but this week we became professional graphers! Graphing helps us to sort and quantify just about any kind of data we like!
Our week concluded with a bus drill, in which we learned the importance of exiting a bus in case of an emergency. We learned that we should make room for those who are closest to the fire to move away first, then each row of seats after should make way to the exit that is farthest away from the danger. We learned a lot from the bus driver and are happy to have learned more about safety on a bus!
