I can't believe it's finally Fall! September is flying by as the children in room 001 are busy at work!
We ended our day today with a visit from our 3rd grade buddies! It's an incredibly valuable part of our Friday schedule. We read, we laugh, we talk, we learn. Our buddies are role models!
Through studying our Community, we talked a lot about our wants and needs, as well as goods and services. This got us thinking about how these things are provided for us. We began talking about different jobs in our community, and the people who do them. We decided to break up into groups where we gathered information from various books in our library. We are working on putting together a mini presentation for our friends to help teach them about a normal day in the life of different kinds of workers. Learning from our friends is proving to be a lot of fun!
This week we introduced two new letter sounds and two new sight words! A great way to reinforce new letters and sounds is to use picture sorts at home. If you find yourself saying a word that starts with a letter that we have focussed on, stress the beginning sound, and ask your child what letter makes that sound! Don't forget to have them show you the alphabet action for the sound! Another reinforcement method is to have your child identify letters and sight words within text. This can be done during your daily reading time, or in any environmental print you may find!
